it came from tv shows like Vampira, and addams family and the munsters and characters like dracula. . .
it inspired the music with velvet-underground and when Bauhaus came. . . thats when the scene got its name. . . because Bauhaus is a graphic design style for advertising gothic furniture. . . the culture was named Goth on some radio station introducing Bauhaus. . .
I just thought it was Alice Coopers outta style? Early 70s? I remember seeing him on the choice of Bob Wilkens Creature?

Jet (the guy in the video) never said that Goths were smarter than anyone, he just said they were intelligent.

And yes I was also trying to dispell the idea that the ‘goth’ look came out of the 19th century, that look was more akin to the New Romantics movement of the time with bands such as the Damned. The ‘Goth’ look owes itself more to old horror movies and mid century shows like The Addams Family and The Munsters.

no mistake, there were a couple of sources, and it was not that the artists were inspired by romantic specificly / Literature gothique.1) The manager of Joy Division once in an interview, described the music the group as something along the lines of Gothic Dance Music, an obvious juxtaposition of words, and the journalist he took it from there.

this guy is way off the original goth was a germanic tribe with its own spoken language and they wore white not black, the new goth subculture is far to vast to categorize us by. Yes, i’m aware, but the connection to the late 70′s “goth” movement is mainly based in the inspiration from gothic litterature, so yes you’re perfectly.
But the whole term “goth” for the post-punk music movement was mainly a mistake by a journalist if i remember correctly, simply because of the inspiration by romantic and gothic litterature.

Black Metal is another kind, of work n' is not goth, Jet is a layer, l' époque victorienne is a d' source; inspiration because of l' old littérature which Goths début finds intéressant, Death Metal has à as much to see with goth like Britney Spears and you évidemment n' never have été à a club underground.
